In the 24 years of my career prior to becoming a Career Ownership Coach, I held senior level positions in Software Sales and Consulting. Earlier still, I rounded many bases in other functional areas of Corporate America with the ambition of becoming a General Manager of a large operation; But once I began working directly with clients to solve some of their most pressing challenges, Sales and Consulting replaced that earlier ambition.
Candidly, the last several years of my career were becoming increasingly difficult, as I was often at odds with the prevailing corporate culture. I did my best to take on the shapes of these cultures, but found them malfitting and was not presenting the best version of myself. Something had to change. As I struggled to gain clarity about a better path for me, my initial vision was “to become the leader and coach I wished I’d had by my side” but I had no idea where to find such a situation in Corporate America. I was skeptical that I’d be able to find such a needle in the haystack.
Then, the stars began to align. I met my coach at The Entrepreneur’s Source and we began working on gaining clarity around my lifestyle, income, wealth, and equity goals, regardless of potential paths to get me there. Setting the vehicles aside until I gained more information and clarity was key, as it opened my mind to possibilities I otherwise would have never known about or considered.
Ultimately, I gained the clarity I’d sought and struggled to gain for so long. Since leaving the Navy, I’d never found the alignment of mission I’d sought in corporate life, but I could do so as a business owner. I now get to be the coach I wish I had decades ago, helping others gain the type of clarity I did, and in finding the right path for them to attain the life they perhaps never dared dream of.
Change can be difficult and sometimes scary, but it can also be incredibly rewarding and liberating. Most fears are unfounded and tend to dissolve when we honestly seek facts and dispel myths.
